Celebrating Paul Nixon’s BEM for Support of Ukrainian Community
We’re delighted to share that Paul Nixon, co-founder of the Congleton Area Ukrainian Support Network (CAUSN) and trustee of Refugees Welcome has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025 with a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his outstanding support to Ukrainian evacuees across Cheshire East.
Paul played a central role in launching CAUSN in early 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since then, CAUSN has helped build a compassionate, practical network of support for more than 400 people, including over 120 families who were helped to relocate—most fleeing conflict in Ukraine, but also including Afghan, Syrian, Kurdish, Chagossian, and British domestic violence survivors.
Reflecting on his award, Paul said:
“I am delighted to have received this honour, but it’s important to recognise that I could not have done this alone.”
What better time to share this news than during Refugees Week? if you would like to get involved with volunteering with refugees, check out the Refugees Welcome website and read their story here to see the tremendous impact of volunteers.
