Resilience in Action - Emergency Planning for the VCFSE Sector

Being prepared is essential for everyone, but especially for non-profit groups who often support vulnerable people. What would you do when there is an emergency like flooding, fires, severe weather (like the current heatwave), and power cuts? Do you have procedures in place to support your team and service users?

At CVS, we are pleased to offer free Emergency Planning training for local groups (staff, volunteers and service users). The training includes practical guidance on creating a household emergency plan, staying informed through local updates, and preparing a household or organisational “grab bag” with essential items for use during an emergency. If you’re interested, please contact helen.roger@cvsce.org.uk, and read more on our website here.

We have been working in partnership with the Cheshire Resilience Forum, Cheshire West Voluntary Action and Warrington Voluntary Action to deliver this training and strengthen community preparedness across the region. The Cheshire Resilience Forum brings together emergency services, local authorities, NHS partners, utility providers and voluntary organisations to coordinate planning and response for incidents ranging from flooding and severe weather to public health emergencies and transport disruption.

We’ve also been working with Cheshire Police who offer a range of training and information to prepare your group for safety concerns and violent attacks.  Training covers Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) and SCaN (See, Check and Notify) online learning and optional virtual sessions to help staff recognise and respond to suspicious activity. Organisations should also regularly test evacuation, invacuation, and lockdown procedures, using guidance and action cards available through NPSA and the Protect UK. Please contact Beth Eaton (Beth.Eaton@cheshire.police.uk) if you’re interested in training for your group.

Communities are strongest when they prepare together for emergencies – so get in touch today to learn more about training with CVS and local services.
