CVSCE supports the Welcome Weekend, standing with refugees and people seeking asylum
CVSCE has been deeply saddened and concerned by the co-ordinated actions targeting people seeking asylum that have occurred in different parts of the country over the last few weeks. We stand in solidarity with those individuals and communities who have been targeted, threatened, or otherwise made to feel insecure.
We need community leaders to come together to ensure these threats are not only immediately resolved, but never find a foothold in our spaces again. We, as CVSCE, will work with communities and with local grassroots organisations where we can be helpful, to spread powerful messages and positive information to ensure such actions and rhetoric do not divide us.
This August 7th-10th, we are joining with Together With Refugees for the Welcome Weekend – a national moment uniting communities in local action to mark one year since people across the country showed compassion and solidarity in response to far-right riots.
Together, we’re showing just how much support for refugees there is within our communities. That when confronted by the politics of division, we come together. In place of fear, we seek understanding. In the face of hate, we choose welcome.
Join us in spreading messages of welcome. Local organisations and decision makers can join in by spreading the feeling of welcome online using these model posts.
Supporting local organisations
Many of our members will be directly supporting those who feel threatened or affected at this time, and if we can provide support for your organisation, we are more than happy to do so.
It is also crucial that staff and volunteers also feel able to look after their own and each other's wellbeing. With this in mind, here are some resources and links that may be of use to local organisations.
The Mental Health Network has several resources that may be of use, including NHS advice on coping with stress following a major incident, psychosocial support from the British Red Cross, and a Young Minds resource on understanding trauma and adversity.
