Why this role matters

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the children, families and community who rely on Ruby’s Fund. Their time, skills and lived experience help us create welcoming, inclusive spaces where families feel steady, supported and connected. As Volunteer Coordinator, you will develop and nurture a thriving volunteer community, ensuring people of all abilities feel valued and confident in their roles. You’ll help volunteers contribute meaningfully to sessions, events and wider services, strengthening the support families receive and enhancing the sense of belonging across Ruby’s Fund.

What you’ll be doing

  • Recruit, induct and support volunteers across all areas of Ruby’s Fund services.

  • Provide clear training, supervision and ongoing development so volunteers feel confident and prepared in their roles.

  • Maintain up‑to‑date volunteer records, including DBS checks, training, supervision notes and role placement information.

  • Build strong working relationships with staff to identify volunteer needs, create meaningful roles and support smooth delivery across projects.

  • Develop safe, welcoming and inclusive volunteer opportunities for people with a wide range of abilities, including volunteers with SEND.

  • Support volunteers involved in community sessions, flexible respite activities, events and outreach, helping them build confidence and skills.

  • Coordinate volunteer rotas to ensure consistent support across weekly sessions and one‑off events.

  • Celebrate volunteer contributions through recognition activities, appreciation events and good‑news communications.

  • Build relationships with local partners, colleges, organisations and referral pathways to widen volunteering opportunities and community involvement.

  • Encourage volunteers to contribute to feedback and reflective practice to help us understand their impact.

  • Promote volunteering as a way to build confidence, wellbeing and employability for adults and young people.

  • Support volunteers participating in fundraising events and contribute to creative ideas that strengthen community involvement.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties aligned with the role.

Time commitment

20 hours per week, worked across the year.

We offer flexible working options.

Some evening or weekend work may occasionally be required.

Salary

£13.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Fixed‑term contract with six‑month probation.

Who we’re looking for

  • Professional, reliable, positive and supportive.

  • Experienced in volunteer recruitment, supervision or coordination.

  • Skilled in building relationships and creating inclusive environments for people of all backgrounds and abilities.

  • Organised, proactive and confident managing multiple tasks and responsibilities.

  • Good communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate others.

  • Comfortable supporting volunteers across sessions, events and community settings.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and willing to undertake required training.

  • Competent using Microsoft 365, with good general IT skills.
