You will be responding to the needs of a variety of departments throughout the hospital, carrying out a range of tasks.

During your session you will hold a mobile phone and respond to requests from all over the hospital. The kinds of task you will be doing will include: Pushing patients in wheelchairs, delivering blood tests to the lab, transporting medical records, chatting with anxious patients, organising printing, acting as chaperone during appointments, and other similar tasks.
Initially, you will also be making telephone calls to recently discharged patients to follow up that they have settled in well at home. As this part of the role grows, these two roles will be separated.

N.B. This role will not commence until we have a full weekly rota of volunteers.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

You must have had your covid vaccinations for this role and you must carry out lateral flow tests the night before every volunteering session.
You will be confident and enjoy delivering first class customer service. You will be an excellent communicator and good with people. You will enjoy the busy aspect of moving around the hospital site and be happy to push patients in wheelchairs.

35p per mile up to 10 miles each way. Local public transport / local taxis, to be agreed in advance.

What support is available for the volunteer?:

Initially the volunteers will complete 4 weeks on the welcome desk to familiarise themselves with the hospital.
Volunteer co-ordinator is on site, specific additional training will be provided where required. Mandatory training will be completed beforehand.

What training is available for the volunteer?:

Mandatory training, Information Governance training, wheelchair training and other training as required.
