We are looking to recruit a team of volunteer mentors to support the Personal Wellbeing Team to address and meet the needs of the people on probation. Volunteer Mentors are matched with people on probation who have been in prison and are being managed by The Probation Service upon release.
Support engagement and attendance to community-based support services
Accompanying participants to personal appointments in the community
Encourage compliance with Probation appointments and licence conditions.
Provide practical and emotional support to participants.
Build on developing participants social skills and positive behaviours.
Encourage and signpost support services and activities to promote social inclusion.
Ability to keep commitments and/or appointments.
Capability to use own initiative to identify and access relevant resources.
Ability to listen effectively and communicate with others.
Capacity to understand and work within necessary guidance to ensure both yourself and the participant understand your professional relationship.
Ability to demonstrate positive behaviour providing a good role model to participants through pro-social modelling.
Be non-judgmental and open minded.
Any out of pocket expenses as per volunteering policy
Regular individual supervision, full training and peer mentor support is provided for each volunteer.
Full mentor training including, risk, lone working will be provided prior to any face to face sessions with a person on probation.
