Planning and Ecology Officer

Salary: £22,000 - 25,000 pa, depending on experience

Location: Bickley Hall Farm, Bickley Hall Farm, Malpas, Cheshire, SY14 8EF

 

The post-holder will support the delivery of CWT’s Strategy by ensuring wildlife is valued more highly and given greater consideration in decision making. The aim of the role is to secure better outcomes for wildlife, especially through the planning system by helping to ensure:

  • decisions affecting nature take account of its value (i.e. planning for sustainable development);
  • net gains for biodiversity are delivered though the planning system;
  • spaces for wildlife are better protected and better managed;
  • science and evidence underpins our work. 

This position is an opportunity to help deliver a vitally important service by influencing decision making mainly, but not exclusively, through the planning system. You will use your professional expertise and communication skills to advise on ecological planning matters. This will involve working at both a local and strategic level, for example by helping to identify, map, protect and enhance Nature Recovery Networks as well as responding to planning consultations. A substantial part of the role will involve improving how the Cheshire Wildlife Trust engages and communicates our planning work to wider audiences. It will also involve supporting local communities to develop local strategies/planning policies and to help individuals submit their own responses to planning consultations.

 

This is a full time role, part time hours will be considered for the right applicant, Flexible location but the ability to work from home an advantage. The postholder will need to be able to travel to Bickley Hall Farm, SY14 8EF, with the option of also using our offices at Thornton-le-Moors or Wildboarclough).
