Message from Cheshire East Local Safeguarding Board Lay Member ; Sam

The Cheshire East Local Safeguarding Children Board meets every two months and is made up of senior personnel from both statutory and voluntary agencies to oversee the work of those agencies where they are engaged with the care of or education and development of children and young people.

The principal responsibility of the board is to ensure that every agency has the safeguarding of children at the forefront of their operations.

The  LSCB meeting was held on 24th March 2016,  the room was provided free of charge by the faith sector, who gave us a warm welcome and some much appreciated hot cross buns. The LSCB has looked at reducing its costs by trying to use free venues where possible.

The meeting was chaired by Ian Rush who talked about a meeting he had had with Alan Wood who is carrying out a review on behalf of the government on the role of LSCBs nationally. Alan indicated his report will look at Serious Case Reviews and how these are carried out, together with the Child Death Overview panels both of which the LSCB has a duty to oversee.

One of the items of the agenda focussed on a new audit process based on BBC Radio 4 moral maze, the focus of this will be the toxic trio (drugs alcohol, mental health) this is an area that affects a lot of the parents/carer of our young people.

CPIS Project

Members were updated on this project. The aim of the project is to ensure earlier intervention where a child is subject to a Child protection plan or is a looked after child, and attends a hospital or A & E department. An alert  system will be in place to notify the child’s social worker within the Local Authority that the child originates from.

DfE Campaign – Tackling child abuse ;  Cheshire East is supporting this campaign and has sent out posters and banners to partners to raise awareness of who to contact if they have concerns about a child or young person.

Locally if you have concerns you should contact  the Cheshire East Consultation Service on 0300 123 5012, or the Out of Hours Service 0300 123 5022. This is a team of professionals who will be able to advise you on all matters relating to child protection.
